As transgender activists protested outside the American Psychiatric
Association (APA) meeting, speakers at the meeting were presenting on the same
topic: gender identity disorder (GID). Some of their words would add clinical
weight to the political slogans.

A DOCTOR has been found guilty of performing an indecent act on a suicidal transsexual patient.
Sulieman Hamid, 53, of Melbourne, touched the cognitively-impaired patient on her breasts and lips while he treated her for a slashed wrist in a cubicle at the Sunshine Hospital emergency department in June 2007.
The court was earlier told the patient propositioned the doctor while he was treating her.
A jury in the Victorian County Court today found that the touching did not constitute the more serious charge of indecent assault.
A suicidal transsexual was assaulted and raped by a Melbourne doctor after she propositioned him while he was treating her slashed wrist, a court has heard.
Sunshine Hospital emergency department doctor Sulieman Hamid, 53, allegedly indecently assaulted the woman in an examination room after she tried to commit suicide in June 2007.
A day later the doctor allegedly went to her house and raped her.
SYDNEY: The first genetic link to male-to-female transsexualism provides new evidence of its biological nature, say Australian researchers.
"There is a social stigma that transsexualism is simply a lifestyle choice, however our findings support a biological basis of how gender identity develops," said Vincent Harley a geneticist from Prince Henry's Institute in Melbourne and co-author of a new study detailing the find.
